What you need to know
Instructors have the ability to record lectures in more than 50 Registrar classrooms. The technology is supported by IS&T, Open Learning, and MIT Video Productions (MVP). Automated recordings only take place if initiated by a request from the instructor, and the sign up process varies depending on the room you are teaching in.
If your classroom is not included in the lists below, MVP can provide technician assisted lecture capture for $500 per class. The cost includes a microphone for recording but not for voice amplification. Inquiries should be directed to MVP-info@mit.edu.
All Registrar and DLC classrooms are outfitted with floor and tabletop stands for iPads and tablets for DIY Zoom recordings at no cost.
Some key points to remember:
- Lecture capture recordings by IS&T and Open Learning are available at no cost.
- You must sign up before your class meets to use the technology.
- Visit Classrooms@MIT to browse inventory and search classrooms by attributes, including lecture capture.

- Lecture capture is provided at no cost including use of a wireless lapel microphone.
- Sign up by logging into Atlas app on your Android or iOS device and tap on the “Lecture Capture” tile.
- Note that only the primary lecturer or officially listed course staff in Canvas can request recordings for their subject.
