What you need to know

GPS (Graduation Planning & Support) is a new integrated degree management and planning tool powered by Stellic and designed to help you navigate your academic journey at MIT. 

The degree audit function – currently available for undergraduates and Sloan graduate students only – will enable you to track progress toward your degree and ensure that you are fulfilling the requirements to graduate. In addition, GPS also includes robust planning tools that will help you connect with your advisor and visualize potential academic pathways for future terms.

Some key points to remember:

  • As with any new platform, you may experience some known issues. The GPS team is actively working to resolve them.
  • Audits for graduate degrees are being built and will be rolled out as they are developed over the next year.
  • GPS does not replace pre-registration, registration, or Add/Drop and WebSIS remains the gateway to your official record of registration and grades.

What you need to do

  • Go to https://gps.mit.edu and use your Kerberos and Touchstone to log in.
  • Find your audit clicking on the “Progress” tab.
    • It will display your major and minor programs, if declared, along with the General Institute Requirements (GIRs). 
  • Your official audit shows completed/registered classes, and you and your advisors will be able to assess your current academic progress – at a glance – through intuitive status bars and color-coded icons.
  • Selecting the “planned” toggle will show you how classes you’ve mapped out for future terms will impact your degree progress. 
  • GPS automatically tracks the following:
    • Science Core: 18.01, 18.02, 8.01, 8.02, 7.01x, and 5.111/3.091.
    • HASS Requirement: eight subjects including the distribution (HASS-A, HASS-H, HASS-S) and your concentration.
    • Communication Requirement: CI-H and CI-M subjects.
    • REST and Lab Requirements.
    • Swim test and PE units.
    • External credit: will sync to GPS, typically within 24 hours of appearing on your grade report in WebSIS, and will automatically “slot” into the appropriate requirement.
  • Unmatched classes are those that do not count toward anything in your audit, including total units.
  • Utilize the GPS knowledgebase from the help icon in the upper right navigation.
