Climate Action: Leadership and Problem-solving in Complex Systems

We propose a new seminar class entitled, Climate Action: Leadership and problem-solving in complex systems. Using a highly experiential pedagogy, this course will combine informational learning – new knowledge and expertise – with transformational learning – deep changes to mindsets, values, assumptions, beliefs, and priorities. We propose 3 overall learning objectives related to climate change. In brief, social, economic and political analysis; assessing solutions; and systems theory. Transformational learning objectives include: students learning about complex realities and different perspectives, identifying and addressing root causes, and students becoming more courageous and resilient. Students in Climate action therefore learn not only by analyzing, but by experiencing.
