Contemporary Chinese Society and Culture in the Lens

The purpose of this project is to create a new documentary-based interactive online platform for intermediate to advanced learners of Chinese at MIT, followed by the innovations in curriculum design of the current course 21G.109 Chinese III(Streamlined). Through the analysis of real stories and social events presented in documentary films, this project aims to expand students’ perspectives and enrich their understandings on history and culture, policy system, as well as values of various groups and generations in Chinese-speaking community. It promotes students to explore the origin of Chinese culture in-depth, conduct cultural comparisons and enhance critical thinking beyond the limitation of traditional language pedagogy. Our goal is to create an inclusive learning community and bring students together for stronger collaboration.
