Pilot class 8.S10 Techniques in Experimental Physics will be co-taught for the first time in the spring 2018 semester by Profs. Richard Milner and Christoph Paus in the newly refurbished teaching space 44-013. The class has two lectures per week as well as a three hour laboratory, where the students are introduced to experimental techniques and some experiments. The class has been made possible by strong support form the Physics Department, Dean of Undergraduate Education, and by a JWEL grant. Here we request $ 30,000 to support development of the laboratories in summer and fall 2018 by Profs. Milner and Paus. This will allow us to refine the experiments based on feedback after the spring 2018 semester and to increase the enrollment for the class in spring 2019.
