Engineering Design Studio

We seek funding to assist in establishing an “Engineering Design Studio” (EDS) in EECS that will enable students to experience “cross-disciplinary” product assembly, with firmware, SMT components, mechanical structure, printed circuit boards, electromagnetics, optics, chemistry (e.g., liquid crystals, ITO coatings, etc) and software. We have already begun efforts to deploy a highly visible, highly functional laboratory that permits flexible experimentation with modern techniques for building electronic systems. We request funding for purchasing fabrication machinery, CAD stations, associated benches, and UROP support. This facility will support a new large freshman seminar experience, EECS department laboratories, and other classes in the EECS undergraduate program.
