I propose to innovate language instructional methods for a new class called "Project-Based Japanese Learning with Multimedia" (21G.510).This class will be taught in Spring 2023 and is the first class in the Japanese language program that combines language learning with project-based learning. The class aims to enhance students’ advanced-level communication skills through class discussion and requires students to apply their Japanese knowledge to technical and/or personal interests. The class aligns well with MIT students’ learning motivations and engages them in authentic activities using Japanese. This class is a key step in expanding the Japanese curriculum, and the proposed project supports the research and preparations essential for the successful delivery of this class.
