Preparing BCS Graduates for an AI-rich World: Reexamining Learning Goals and Assessment

A departmental action team (DAT) in Brain and Cognitive Sciences (BCS) will reexamine learning goals and assessment practices in light of AI. As AI reshapes how students learn, reason, and communicate, BCS faces a critical need to define what students should understand and be able to do, and how that understanding can be assessed. The DAT will bring together faculty, instructional staff, and students to engage in a structured, evidence-based process of inquiry and implementation, in partnership with the Teaching + Learning Lab (TLL). This work will include a listening tour, surveys, and focus groups followed by the development of shared learning goals and pilot implementations in selected courses, with successful approaches refined and scaled across BCS. Findings will inform BCS-wide recommendations and be integrated into curriculum planning, creating a sustainable, scalable model for adapting undergraduate education in an AI-rich world.
