Tactile Music Making

This proposal requests funding to equip the Student Production Studios within MIT’s newly inaugurated Linde Music Building, a facility purpose-built to advance music education and research. Although the building features outstanding acoustically isolated studios and teaching spaces, its budget did not cover audio and music technology equipment for the studios. This grant will fund the essential equipment needed for music technology studies, allowing students to touch, feel, manipulate, and experiment with the physical devices that create today’s music. It is the musical embodiment of mens et manus, and will provide immediate benefits for hands-on learning in multiple music technology classes, UROPs, and extracurricular creative student projects.
