A team of MIT student musicians led by Dr. Peter Torpey will create a custom web and mobile platform to create improvised compositions using voices, instruments, and electronic music interfaces. This platform will allow Grammy-winning musician Jacob Collier to invent these compositions in real-time during performance by interacting with individual students up through a full ensemble of 120. Additionally the platform will allow the students to interact with one another and with Collier, and, to some extent also interface with a live and online audience. The goal of the project is to create a new, viable method for expressing live music in a concert setting that combines small and large-scale collaboration through improvisation.
