The Physics Mentoring Program provides academic and psychosocial support to students enrolled in first-year and second-year physics subjects. The program currently serves more than 300 mentees, of whom 91% are enrolled in physics GIRs. Mentees meet weekly one-on-one or in groups of up to three with a trained mentor. Mentors are undergraduate or graduate students who are proficient with the physics content of the subject plus a few postdocs, staff, and faculty, all of whom participate in ongoing training in mentorship skills. Assessment conducted during the Spring 2020 and 2021 semesters shows that the program is meeting its goals of helping mentees academically, developing the skills of the mentors, and fostering community in the Physics Department.
