The purpose of this project is the development and implementation of a Global Simulation (GS) course in French at the intermediate level. In a GS classroom, the instructor creates a semester-long culturally grounded, immersive scenario in which students adopt a specific character. This simulation allows students to practice collaboratively in a variety of discourses from the standpoint of particular social roles grounded in Francophone cultures. Through carefully crafted activities that move the simulation forward, students grow linguistically while engaging in critical reflections about language use through a variety of discourses and textual genres. A GS approach for language teaching promotes the use of language for authentic communication in an authentic cultural context and helps students refine communicative and intercultural competencies.
