The proposed approach will transform the traditional lab handouts to active documents by integrating popup helps, instructional video clips, troubleshooting procedures, and links to lecture materials and external references. In addition, it includes an embedded software module that provides real-time answers to questions by students. The anticipated benefits of having VLA-enabled handouts are: 1) increased understanding of labs, 2) reduced learning curve, and 3) a self-learning platform that can be accessed anywhere. Successful implementation of VLA may lead to future projects such as the development of a remote/virtual laboratory.
