This proposal to the Alumni Class Fund focuses on the redesign and expansion of 6.022/HST.542 Quantitative Systems Physiology, which is the primary class at MIT for teaching of human physiology from a quantitative engineering and physical principles perspective. The class has enjoyed tremendous enthusiasm from those who have taken it. However, it is also in need for improvement and expansion to a broader MIT student community interested in developing engineering solutions to local, national, and global healthcare problems. In particular, through support from the Alumni Class Fund, we propose to refine the current laboratory experience and develop a series of in-class demonstrations for the respiratory block of the class to make the material more accessible to students through observation.
