This experiment in educational innovation aims to explore how best to use online content, delivered via the EdX platform, to enhance learning within an MIT traditional, residential subject in the Humanities1. It aims to set a model and establish a robust framework for faculty that will enable most effective use of this new,truly innovative, environment for learning.
We seek to provide students with a greater degree of flexibility to manage how they navigate and work their way through a subject’s online materials and tasks, a move that will require them to take more responsibility for learning than is usual in a MIT subject. We want them to be active learners. At the same time, faculty and staff will ensure students have the resources and support to learn, to grow, to mature.
