We propose to run a required course in Mechanical Engineering in a more project-based format. The subject is 2.086 Numerical Computation which deals with computer programming for engineering applications via calculus, differential equations, probability, and statistics. The course currently administers a final exam and we will, as an experiment, replace that with a final project. The alumni funds will enable assessment of the pilot and planning of the subsequent implementation to make improvements based on data.
